Eating the street in Bangkok

Wow, what an amazing few days!  3 days in Bangkok on the way to Sydney. Why haven’t I done this before? Not only did I get to fill my belly with all manner of delicious things, I also got to stay here for next to nothing:

Definitely made the right call choosing the hotel over the hostel. Who needs to meet new people when you wake up to this every morning? And best of all, no jetlag – doing it in stages is definitely the way forward.

Istanbul Eats

I have been putting off this post for a while now. Months in fact. 

In early November  I took my sister to Istanbul for her birthday. We had a fantastic, food-filled fling with a sexy city that never sleeps and both fell a little bit in love. I was so caught up in this short romance that I didn’t bother much with foreplay, I just wanted to dive right in.

This is a metaphorical apology for the seriously shocking photos that follow. I really ought to have pressed some of my cameras buttons… but I was too busy pressing my own.

If you are visiting Istanbul and you love food, I highly recommend buying a copy of Istanbul Eats, an English language guide to “the best undiscovered local eateries you might not always find on your own”. We lived by it and we weren’t disappointed.

Truck Stop

A couple of weeks ago I went to Truck Stop with my Mum and a friend, Shaun. It is a summer street food event at Canary Wharf organised by Street Feast and Tweat Up to bring together “over 20 of the UK’s best food trucks”. (There were probably 21, and of varying quality, but who’s counting?)

The pick of the bunch appeared to be the kimchi burgers from Kimchi Cult, judging by the line which at peak hour snaked all the way across the site and back again. I didn’t try them; after an hour wait you are only going to be disappointed.

We arrived early, which was lucky. It was massively oversubscribed so lines got out of control from about 7pm. Fortunately we had already started on the trucks we were most interested in.
