I'm dreaming of a bright Christmas
Just like the one I want to reach
Where the barbeque sizzles
and children giggle
As the sun shines gaily on the beach.
I'm dreaming of a bright Christmas
With every snowflake that I smite
May your planes be sprayed and de-iced
And may all the snowmen take flight!
On Monday when I posted this on Facebook things were not looking good for getting to Australia in time for Christmas. Heathrow had been closed most of the weekend leaving 400,000 passengers Christmas plans in disarray.
I don’t have much of a window for error; my flight arrives on Christmas Eve so any major delay would mean missing Christmas. Yesterday when I looked at the BAA site for Heathrow Airport I saw that the equivalent flight had been cancelled. I took this as a bad omen and tried not to get my hopes up.
This morning when I looked at the window, it still looked like this:
So it was with some trepidation that I refreshed the Heathrow information page on the BAA website. When I saw that my flight was one of those on the limited schedule for today I almost jumped up and down and cried with joy... except that I have lost my voice so actually I expressed my joy via email to family and friends.
There is still a chance that I will be delayed, but things are looking much better than on Monday. All being well, you won’t hear from me for a few days... so Merry Christmas!
